While you might be familiar with chicken or turkey necks, it’s uncommon to find other neck bones. These thick cuts of bone and meat can be intimidating if you’ve never cooked with them before to get a beautiful thick collagen filled bone broth. Set your slow cooker for an entire day of low heat simmering to allow the neck to release all its goodness. The exposed collagen and connective tissue found in the bones will create an unbelievably rich broth. Just be patient and allow the neck bones to cook slowly. In the end, you’ll have fall-apart beef reminiscent of oxtail or short ribs. We know once your pet tries this bone broth they will fall in love. (Just be sure to discard the bones as they are too small for consumption and can sometimes be brittle if cooked for too long.)
